Work History: Dr. Nixon previously taught music for 22 years at the Virginia School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Disabled in Hampton, Virginia, serving from 1978 to 2000. She was a Choral Director for the Norview Middle School of Norfolk from 2000 to 2001 and from 2001 to 2002 at Wilson High School of Portsmouth. Dr. Nixon has served as an Assistant Professor of Music/Vocal Instructor at Norfolk State University since 2002. She reestablished the Vocal Jazz Ensemble in 2002, and served as its Director from 2003 to 2010. Since 2010 she has taught Voice, Music Appreciation, Sight-Singing/Eartraining as the Director of the Jr. Music/Summer Music Clinic.
Career Accomplishments: Dr. Nixon sang the role of “Clara” in George Gershwin’s opera Porgy & Bess in three countries in South America in 1992.
